Our work centers on theoretical and computational studies of room-temperature ionic liquids. The principles connecting chemical structure to the physical and solvation properties of molecular liquids are well-known, but almost nothing is known about how the ionic structure of an ionic liquid affects its behavior. We have focused primarily on understanding solute-solvent interactions in ionic liquids, and have also obtained insight on the factors controlling viscosity in ionic liquids. |
